The Ecuadorian government has spent $13 million on infrastructure in Artibonite, Haiti, and plans to spend $15 million more.
President Rafael Correa was in the Carribbean country on his way back from an official trip to Europe. In Haiti, he toured the projects Ecuadorians have been working on in the country.
Ecuadorian military engineers are building schools, irrigation ditches, a bridge, 70m of roads, and a plaza named after an Ecuadorian president in this central province. Artibonite is considered Haiti’s breadbasket because of it’s important agricultural production.
Ecuador has been a part of the Haiti reconstruction effort since the 2010 earthquake that left the island in shambles, 300,000 dead, and more than a million homeless.
